What Fretquest is

Fretquest publishes free practice material for guitarists: scale maps, position studies, tablature reading exercises and technique lessons. Every lesson is written for this site. The pages are static HTML, and every diagram is an SVG drawn from the musical parameters of that lesson.

The lessons are teaching material for the instrument. They are not a substitute for a teacher, and they are not medical or ergonomic advice: if a hand position hurts, stop and change it.

Use of the material

You may read, print and practise from these pages for your own personal study, and teachers may use individual exercises with their students. Republishing the lessons, in whole or in part, as your own content, or reselling the material, is not permitted.

Quoting a short passage with a link back to the page it came from is welcome and needs no permission.

Accuracy and availability

Fretboard diagrams are generated from tuning, fret window and scale parameters, and the pitch maths has been checked, but mistakes are possible. If a diagram and its text disagree, treat the text as the description of what to play and tell us about the conflict.

The site is provided as it is, without warranty, and access may be interrupted by maintenance. Tempo suggestions are starting points, not targets to be reached at any cost.

Advertising and third-party links

This site carries advertising served by Google AdSense. Advertisements are not endorsements: any product shown in an ad is the responsibility of the advertiser. Where a lesson links to another site, that site has its own terms and its own privacy policy.
